The Stores & Distribution Attendant is dedicated to ensuring that hospitals and health care units have the right supplies at the right time to ensure patient care runs smoothly. Note: Cowichan District Hospital (3045 Gibbins Rd, Duncan, BC) will be the incumbent’s primary work location. The incumbent may be required to work at other locations, based on operational needs, that include the following worksites. Travel required, as needed, in which a vehicle may be needed to access sites that are not covered by public transit.

What you’ll do

  • Organize and prioritize internal requisitions from several sites and departments, maintaining related records by completing paperwork and keying data for recording inventory supply levels, internal requisitions and pick lists, including data entry into a computerized system.
  • Maintain the cart top-up system by checking cart or trolley supply levels against pre-established minimum/maximum quota levels, entering requisition data into computerized systems to convey when established re-order points are reached, and picking stock from stores inventory supply to replenish carts or trolleys as required.
  • Receive, unpack and check incoming goods and materials, ensuring same are delivered in accordance with specifications, and completes related paperwork.
  • Maintain stores inventory supply records for carts or trolleys and stores shelving by labeling, and adding or deleting data and inventory items as directed and in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Marshal supplies and equipment in loading or temporary storage areas. Assemble loads, load carts, bins and/or trolleys and transports and ships a variety of goods, supplies and equipment to and from designated areas, sites and departments.
  • Identify and return damaged or spoiled goods to suppliers and completes appropriate documentation.
  • In accordance with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations, delivers, picks up, ships and transports a variety of supplies and equipment by operating a truck and a varied fleet of powered equipment and carts. Completes required documentation.
  • Perform a variety of routine inspection and maintenance functions on vehicles and equipment such as securing load, cleaning, checking, lubricating, and topping up fluids. Maintain vehicle documentation, such as a logbook, including recommending repair or replacement as necessary.
  • Participate in inventory activities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


What you bring

Qualifications

  • Grade 12, one (1) year recent, related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples in social and health contexts, including supported by significant knowledge of Indigenous-specific mandates, including clear understanding of and commitment to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination and embed Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within health care settings. This involves familiarity and understanding Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within Warehouse Operations contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - BC Human Rights Code, BC Anti-racism Act and how they intersect across the health care system.

Job Type: Casual (Casual is defined as on call with no guaranteed hours. Shifts can be called out via short call (1-5 hours of notice) or pre-booked).

Wage: $26.02 / Hour + 13% in lieu
