The Investment Operations team within Capital Markets Finance (CMF) supports the investment groups in executing transactions across multiple products, global markets, and jurisdictions. The team manages critical middle-office functions necessary for the life cycle events of investment products within the portfolio.
The Manager plays a key role in overseeing team operations, including providing supervision and leadership to staff. Responsibilities include analyzing derivative product requirements across various markets, onboarding and managing counterparties, vendors, and new products, as well as overseeing life cycle events for OTC derivative investments. Life cycle events encompass trade capture and validation, contract settlements, income entitlement, credit events, valuation practices, and fee and margin calculation requirements. Supported product types include OTC derivatives, FX contracts, and cleared swaps.
The Manager ensures accurate transaction reflection in the book of record and continuously enhances internal controls. They will provide complete backup coverage for all team functions and assist the Director as needed.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Development
- Provide leadership and ongoing direction to staff to optimize team performance, conduct, teamwork, and morale.
- Supervise and provide technical guidance to team members.
- Participate in recruiting, training, and developing staff, as well as assessing performance effectiveness.
- Ensure operational activities for assigned mandates are accurate and effective, reviewing staff work against internal procedures and policies.
- Maintain and update team checklists as required.
- Implement appropriate supervision levels and enforce strong internal controls to ensure the timely and accurate execution of processing, verification, and reporting activities.
- Identify, recommend, and assist in implementing process improvements and increased automation of current workflows.
- Document required changes for approval and participate in implementing new processes and systems.
- Develop test cases and perform testing on application upgrades and newly developed reports.
- Ensure the integrity of investment transaction data, safeguarding assets, managing cash movements, income collection, and market valuation.
- Review and ensure qualitative reporting for asset classes under your scope, highlighting and explaining outliers with commentary.
- Investigate and resolve open issues, escalating when necessary.
- Establish effective communication practices to align team activities with departmental objectives.
- Collaborate with staff and management across the division to address senior management and client requests.
- Work closely with front office traders on trade support for various investment asset types.
- Enforce compliance with policies, procedures, and limits to mitigate exposure to loss.
- Address audit requirements thoroughly and effectively.
- Maintain knowledge of policies regarding valuation, trading limits, and signing authorities, ensuring adherence in daily activities.
- Develop and maintain detailed operational procedures and process documentation.
- Provide complete backup coverage for all critical derivative operational functions.
- Ensure the accurate and timely settlement of derivatives transactions by resolving discrepancies with traders, brokers, and custodians.
- Review daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations, resolving discrepancies to ensure financial data accuracy and valuation reasonability.
- Maintain the book of record for derivative transactions, ensuring policy compliance for transaction approvals.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams (CMF, OMERS Capital Markets, OMERS Investment Entities), counterparties, custodians, and auditors.
- Prepare analysis, continuity schedules, and special reports, resolving discrepancies as assigned.
- Contribute to major project initiatives through to completion.
- Participate in projects and other duties as assigned.
Education and Designations
- University degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
- Completed or actively pursuing a professional designation such as CFA, CPA, or MBA. Relevant industry courses are considered an asset.
- Minimum of 7 years in Investment Operations, with a focus on bilateral and cleared derivative products, including trade capture, confirmation, settlements, reconciliations, and pricing/valuation.
- At least 3 - 5 years of experience in management and leadership roles.
- Exposure to investment accounting, reporting, valuation, and audit control practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with all organizational levels and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Detail-oriented, with a proven aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis and problem-solving.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Flexibility is essential.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and investment accounting systems. Experience with Calypso, Charles River Development (CRD), and Bloomberg is an asset.
- Flexible to work outside of standard business hours, including providing support to OMERS global offices when required.
